MR. EDWARD WOOD.
The death has occurred at Palmerston North of an old identity, Mr. Edward Wood, in his ninety-second year. As a lad he went to America, and having spent some years there returned to Lincolnshire. England, arriving here in 1887. He went to the Feilding district, and while there went to the Maori rising at Parihaka. In 1882 he married Florence Stevens, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Stevens, who were among the first settlers of that district. He then left for Bulls to take a position with the firm of Stevens and Gorton. In 1891 he went to Palmerston North with the firm of Abraham and Williams, whom he served for 33 years, then living in retirement on Melson’s Line, his wife having died in 1904.
