FORMAL RECOGNITION

FRENCH COMMITTEE OF LIBERATION Recd. 10.10 p.m. London, Aug. 26. The British and United States Governments issued a statement formally but conditionally recognising the French Committee of National Liberation. Moscow radio says Russia recognised the Committee and the Canadian Press Association says the Canadian Government has taken similar action. Mr. Harold Macmillan has been appointed British representative on th? committee and M. Pierre Vienot. will in future act for the Committee in London. Mr. Macmillan called on M. Missigli, to whom h n handed the British statement formally recognising the Committee. French circles in Algiers, while showing satisfaction with the British memorandum, recognise that it. does not go tlm whole way to recognition. M. Missigli said: “The essential thing is that the document, gives a sound and sincere basis for co-operation. The text should be regarded as a living document, not a legal one for picking holes.
