POSITION OF BRITISH MANPOWER Recd. 6.30 p.m. London, Aug. 24. The number of persons working full-time for the war effort oi Britain’s effective population ol 33,130,000, which is defined as persons aged 14 to 64, is 22,300,000, said the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Labour. Mr. McCorquodale. The figures include 15,200,000 men and 7,100.000 women. There are 2,500,000 married, persons among the women, workers. Mr McCorquodale says British manpower is the most highly organised in the world. Women represent 35 per cent, of the total of employees in the engineering and allied industries and 52 per cent, in the chemicals and explosives industries. The figures do not lake into account any forms of voluntary work, Home Guard or Fire Guard.
