MORE NEWSPRINT
AVAILABLE FOR ELECTION CAMPAIGN (P.A.) Wellington. Aug. 25. Newspapers of the Dominion, in spite of the heavy rationing of newsprint paper, will endeavour to give th? fullest, possible publicity 1o the coming election campaign, slated the manager of the Newspaper Proprietors' Association to-day. “Th? restrictions on the import of paper have imposed a heavy handicap on the Press for the past three years, and last year particularly the stock position b: .dme extremely critical. During the past month or two the situation has shown a slight improvement, and advantage will be taken of this to relax to a moderate extent and for the election period the rationing restrictions in force. From now
on up to the date of the elections the daily newspapers, generally speaking, wi'l be in a position to allot some extra space each week to cover election publicity. Some papers which have carefully nursed their stocks may be able to do a little more than others, but all feel that the occasion of the ePctions is a matter of such far-reachirtg importance to the public that the utmost possible should be done to give the fullest coverage nracticable of th? election speeches and happenings consistent with the paper stocks available.”
