COMPANY AFFAIRS DIVIDENDS DECLARED Woolworths (W.A.) Limited announce that an interim dividend of 5 per cent, has been declared on the paid-up ordinary share capital of the company, based on shareholdings as at August 31, 1943, and will be paid on September 15, 1943. Mr. A. Hayward, chairman, stated tnat output was 230,467 tons, against 226,314 tons alst year. Of the tonnage produced, the company’s /actories consumed 57,463 tons, about 4100 tons less than last year, due to the change back from extra cheese production to butter. Supplies received 12,504 tons, a slight increase of 297 tons over the previous year. The balance went to the railways, industry, and the public. WHITTOME, STEVENSON PROFIT Whittome, Stevenson and Co., Ltd., Auckland, report that for the year ended June 30 net prolit was £5719, after providing for depreciation and bad debts. This compares with £4646 last year and £3340 in 1941. Of the profit £3832 has been set aside for taxation (£2757 last year), leaving £lBB7 which, added to the sum brought forward, makes £3156. A dividend of 6 per cent., unchanged, free of security taxes, is recommended, requiring £1845, and leaving £l3ll to be carried forward. Gross trading profit is £18,903, against £16,541 last year. EDMENTS, LTD., PROFIT After provision of £lO,OOO for taxation and including £402 over-provided for taxation for the preceding year, Edments Ltd., chain stores, showed a profit of £12,363 for the year ended June 30. For the previous year the profit was £7380, after providing £9643 for taxation. Preference dividend and unchanged ordinary dividend of 10 per cent., absorbing £12,062; carry forward £.3836, compared with £3937 brought in. Profit after taxation equals 8.61 per cent.
