MARTON PAYS TRIBUTE

MRS. RUTH WELSH’S DEATH (0.C.) Marton, June 25. By the death of Mrs. Ruth Welsh on Sunday, June 20, Marton has lost one of its most highly-respected residents. Born at Ballynamady, County of Antrim. Ireland, Miss Hall was married to Mr. Carson Welsh in 1879, her husband predeceasing her in 1904. Mrs. Welsh left for New Zealand in the ship Ormonde in 1920 and was met! by her brothers, Sam and Hugh Hall, and her son, Harry Welsh, at Auckland. After a short residence at. Kimbolton with her son-in-law, Dr. W. S. R. Dick, they came to Marton in April, 1922, where she resided with Dr. Dick to the day of her passing away. Mrs. Welsh was of a kindly disposition and a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, and as matron of Dr. Dick's home she was of great assistance to him in his profession. She was esteemed and beloved by ai! his patients for her kindly works and sympathy in their troubles. The funeral took place on Tuesday last at Mt. View Cemetery and was attended by a large number of friends. The Rev. J. A. Robertson conducted an impressive service at the home and at the graveside, and the number of beautiful floral tributes testified to the high esteem in which Mrs. Welsh was held in the district. The pall-bearers were Messrs. J. Henderson. Frank Brice, junr., W. Clapham, W. Gal pin, R. Brown and W. Welsh. Mrs. Welsh is survived by three sons—James (in Ireland), Harry, of Heaton Park. Marton, and Walker, of Seawood Downs, Edendale, South Island.
