FEILDING PROTEST

(P.A.) Palmerston North, March 19. At a largely attended meeting of farmers at Feilding, called to voice a protest against the decision of the Government in the matter of the method employed for the payment to woelgrowers of the 15 per cent, increase for wool, made available by the Imperial Government to New Zealand wooigrowers in order to offset increased costs, a motion was carried drawing to public attention:— (a) First, that the Government, in its decision, perpetrated a grave injustice to woolgrowers in compulsorily obliging them to subsidise the woollen manufacturing industry, (b) had usurped the rights of individuals in compelling woolgrowers to subscribe to the loan by converting part of the cash payment into non-negotiable bonds. The resolution added: "This meeting is apprehensive of this high-hand-ed action, questions the Government's right to withhoN portion of the trust moneys, and is of opinion that legal proceedings should be taken to test the validity of such action.
