PRICE OF PETROL

INCREASE APPLICATION RECEIVED (P.A.) Parliament Bldgs., March 18. An indication that the Government had received an application from oil companies for permission to increase the price of petrol was given by the Minister of Supply, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, when the House of Representatives met at 2.30 p.m. to-day, in reply to a question by Mr. W. Sullivan.

The Minister said data relating to additional costs submitted in support of the application was now being examined. Mr. Sullivan asked, if any increase were allowed, would it be substantial? The Minister replied that it would not be anv greater than any of the individual rises made during the past vear or two. The whole matter would have to be looked into closely, he said. He did not know exactly what would be involved in it.
