REGENT THEATRE

“Submarine Raider," a thrilling action drama, starring John Howard and Marguerite Chapman, screens finally at the Regent Theatre to-day. The associate feature, “The Great Mr. Nobody,” is a side-splitting comedy, starring Eddie Albert and Joan Leslie. Double Feature for Week-end Ellery Queen, super-sleuth of radio, fiction and screen, returns to the Regent Theatre to-morrow in Columbia’s "A Desperate Chance for Ellery Queen,” latest in the thrill-packed series of detective comedies. William Gargan again plays the title role with Margaret Lindsay continuing as Nikki Porter, his lovely, crime-huntng secretary. Other familiars include Charley Grapewin and James Burke. The associate feature, “Moonlight Masquerade,” is sparkling entertainment, blending comedy, romance and songs. The cast is an extraordinarily good one. Dennis O’Keefe is in top form as a happy-go-lucky playboy, while Jane Frazee wins praise for an equally well-enacted characterisation. Stage comedienne Betty Kean makes her film debut in this picture, and scores a hit both in the comedy and musical sequences. In the supporting cast the stand-outs are Eddie Foy, jnr., Erno Verebes, Paul Harvey, Jed Prouty and Franklin Pangborn.
