VALUES AT ADDINGTON

(P.A. Christchurch, March 17. Heavy sheep entries were again a feature of the Addington market, and a big penning of breeding ewes sold soundly but slightly easier than a week ago. Fat sheep maintained values. Fat lambs improved with the advance in the export schedule, and a small proportion of the entry of prime beef also advanced. Store Sheep.—An entry over 23,000, including 2000 two-tooths. The twotooths still maintained high values, but there was some easing as compared with recent sales and ewe fail’s. The highest price was 445, for a line from Nelson. Some shipped sheep made up to 355. Among the older sheep one station line of four-year halfbreds made up to 23s 6d and five-year-olds to 17s. Store lambs, particularly ewe lambs, sold exceptionally well and there was a total clearance of the yarding of 4000. Fat Sheep.—An entry of about 3000. Prices for all classes showed little change on late rates- Included in the entry was a line of 130 shipped wethers, which sold from 29s 4d to 32s 4d. There was a steady demand for ewes, best ewes selling from 17s to 21s. Cattle.—Entry of 546, against 460 last week, was mainly comprised of medium and half-finished steers and secondary cows. The scarcity of prime cattle caused a sharp advance for this class, prices througohout the sale increasing by 20s a head, but other classes showed little change. Best beef ranged from 42s 6d to 45s 6d per 1001 b. with a few special lines to 48s 6d. Medium to good made 38s 6d to 425, ordinary 34s to 375, cows up to 275. Fat Pigs.—The porker yarding was small and values increased by from 3s to 4s a head; average price per lb. Bad to 91d. Choppers showed no change in values. The entry in the bacon section was again large. There was a genera] easing of about 5s to 7s per head; average price 7id to Bd.
