WAR SAVINGS DRIVE

NEED FOR ACCOUNTS BEING KEPT ALIVE

(Special) Wellington, March 17. National war savings quotas were attained last week at 62 places, including the provincial centres of Invercargill, Napier, New Plymouth, Wanganui and Wellington. Commenting to-day on the position, the chairman of the N.Z. National War Savings Committee, Mr. T. N. Smallwood, said that while many people will recognise that it is at present a national duty to save and lend, a number of depositors have made only <vie or two deposits to their accounts. in some cases the initial deposit only. Mr. Smallwood reminded these people that it was in their own interests, as well as that of their country, to keep their accounts alive. More and more people were recognising these days how small sums invested regularly accumulate and how much benefit will accrue to them from these savings in the post-war period.
