Mr. Peter Lewis, J.P., of Wellington, is visiting Wanganui. Mr. J. J. Lissette, of Parikino, who is an inmate of Belverdale Hospital, is reported to be making satisfactory progress toward recovery. Mr. Lloyd Powell, English pianist and composer, will visit New Zealand this year to conduct the practical examinations in pianoforte .playing for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, England. Mr. Powell officiated in a similar capacity in New Zealand in 1936 and 1941.

Mr. W. T. Ikin, general manager for New Zealand of the A.M.P. Society, accompanied by Messrs. H. L. Cranswick, general superintendent of agencies for Australia and New Zealand, and Mr. F. Chapman, of the Wellington office, are conducting a tour of inspection of the society’s North Island district offices.

Dr. R. J. Park, accompanied by Mrs. Park, has returned to New Zealand from Australia, where he has been on service with the Australian Army Medical Corps. He will shortly resume war duties with the New Zealand Army Medical Service. Dr. Park is the son of Mr. A. D. Park, C.M.G., Wellington.

Private Wepere Paki was tendered a social evening by the residents of Turakina last week. Mr. Herd, on behalf of residents, made a small presentation to the guest and wished him Godspeed and a safe return. Later in the week Private Paki was entertained at his mother’s residence by a number of relatives and friends.

Mr. S. E. Lloyd. Fordell, has received advice through the Air Ministry, from the International Red Cross at Geneva, that his son, PilotOfficer Eril Lloyd, is buried at Uteringadeel, near Oldeboorn. Holland. PilotOfficer Lloyd was previously reported missing in November, 1941, and his death was officially presumed in September, 1942.

The death has occurred of Mr. James Haughey at his home at Takanini. He was born in Victoria 76 years ago, and after coming to New Zealand as a child he was in the Edu-, cation Department for a long period. For 22 years he was a teacher in Marlborough, spending the last eight of these as principal of the Robinhood Bay Boys’ College. His final appointment was headmaster at the Takanini School, a position from which he retired 10 years ago. He is survived by his wife. The death has occurred of Mr. James Proctor Blair, aged 61, chairman of directors of Blair and Kent, Limited, Auckland, and a widelyknown figure in the wholesale softgoods trade of the Dominion. Mr. Blair was secretary of the Methodist Foreign Mission Board, Mount Albert Circuit, and also a member of the Methodist Mission Board. During the last war he organised the commercial travellers’ appeal which raised £250,000 in aid of patriotic funds. He was for 38 years a member of the Mount Albert Bowling Club, holding during that time every club office. He belonged to the Masonic craft. He is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters.
