ONE MAN KILLED

FATAL MOTOR-CYCLE CR/'S'i NEAR NEW PLYMOUTH (P.A.) New Plymouth, March 17. A motor-cycle accident at the junction of the Koru and Main South Roads, about nine miles from Nev/ Plymouth, last night resulted in the death of one young man and injuries to three others, who, were admitted to the New Plymouth Hospital. The men involved were: Killed: Bruce Karion Abbott, of Hastings, aged 19 years. Injured: Ike Jenkins, New Plymouth, aged 18 vears; concussion, condition favourable. Gordon Tavlor, Mokau, aged 20 years; concussion, condition favourable. Whetu Bailey, believed of Wangaganui. aged 19 years; injuries serious. condition critical. Al four men were employed by the Okato Co-op. Dairy Company. The three injured men are Maoris. The accident occurred at approximately 10.5 last night. It is believed that the men were returning from New Plvmouth to Okato. No one saw the accident and it cannot be said at the moment how it happened. The men were discovered on the roadside by Captain J. J. Corkil), of the New Plymouth headquarters of the Army Department, and Sergeant A Edwards, of the Home Guard staff Two of the men were lying one on each side of one of the cycles. The other tw'o appeared to have been shot across the grass on the roadside and W'ere found lying up under the hedge about 10 yards from the other men. The second cycle was lying between the first one and the men under the hedge. Dr. H. P. Gray was summoned from New Plymouth and after attending to the iniured he had them brought into the hospital by ambulance. Both cycles were badly smashed. Indicating that whatever the nature of the accident, there must have been an impact of some force.
