NO BUILDING PERMIT

PATEA MAN FINED (0.C.) Patea, March 15. Percival Douglas Forbes, who was charged with erecting a building in Norfolk Street, Patea, without obtaining a building permit, was fined £2 and costs, with solicitor’s fee £1 Is, in the Patea Court by Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M. Mr. Cathro, for Forbes, said Forbes had purchased a small house and had added a bathroom and scullery at the back. The house was the first he had owned. Mr. Hamel said the Borough Council did not press for a heavy penalty, but it wished householders to understand that the building by-laws must be adhered to. No building could be erected at present without the consent of the district building controller and a permit from the Borough Council. The building inspector, C. J. Gardiner. said that the house was one of the first to be built at Patea. The premises were now in a better condition with the additions.
