WEDDING

ABBOTT—HORSLEY A very charming wedding took place on Saturday in Christ Church, Wanganui, when Betty Alice, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Horsley, was married to Captain Samuel Hugh Abbott (Fourth Field Regiment) military aide-de-camp to the Governor of Fiji, and eldest son of Mr. R. Atkinson Abbott and the late Mrs. Abbott, Auckland. The Ven. Archdeacon J. R. Young officiated and Miss Lily Dunlop played the organ. The bride, who was escorted by her father, wore a becoming gown of pale pink silk crepe patterned in silver floral design. The bodice was swathed on to a peaked waistband, with a full gored skirt and short puffed sleeves. The white tulle veil fell from a coronet of white gladioli and carnations and she carried a sheaf of pale pink and white gladioli. Attending the bride were Misses Mary Abbott (Auckland), sister of the bridegroom, Jean Horsley, sister ol the bride, and Margery Hume (Wellington). They wore graceful gowns of white chiffon fashioned on similar lines to the bride’s and carried fans made of pink shaded gladioli. Worn in their heads were dainty top-knots of pink flowers.

The best man was the bridegroom’s twin brother, Mr. Dennis Abbott. Auckland, and the ushers were Messrs. Robert and David Horsley, Cedric Graham (Hamilton), and lan Campbell.

During the signing of the register Mrs. L. Campion sang “Just for Today.” I Mrs. Horsley received her guests wearing a smart frock of brown crepe with gold studded pattern on the corsage. Her hat and shoes toned with the ensemble and her posy was of autumn-tinted flowers. The reception was held at “Riverbank.” Anzac Parade, the home of the bride’s parents, where a marquee had been erected on the lawn. The tables were tastefully decorated with dahlias, roses and belladonna lilies to tone with the bride’s frock.

For travelling the bride chose a dove grey striped full-length tailored coat and skirt worn with a light blue blouse, grey hat and woodland brown accesories.*
