OPEN PAIRS CHAMPIONSHIP WANGANUI BOWLING CENTRE The Wanganui Bowling Centre's open tournament, which concluded yesterday in showery weather, was won by A. Todd and W. Marr, of the Marton Club, who defeated T. L. Sperring and S. J. Goodey (Wanganui Club) in the final. When presenting the trophies the president of the Wanganui Bowling Centre, Mr. W. J. Stone, complimented the Marton pair on their fine performance and the runners-up on their splendid up-hill fight in the final. Both Mr. Marr and Mr. Goodey replied. Cheers for the finalists brought the proceedings to a close. Despite the fact that the final between Marr and Goodey was contested in light rain showers a fine exhibition of bowling was given, each player in turn resting the shot. On the seventh end the score was 5-all, and again on the 11th. end they were level, 7-all. From then on Marr went to the front, where he remained to the finish. On the 18th. Marr secured a four, making the score 16-9 to him, but on the next end Goodey notched a four, bringing the board to 16-13. On the last two ends both teams notched a brace, leaving Marr the winner by three points. Details of yesterday’s play:—

Second Round.—Marr 22, v. Herd 15; Gordon 22, v. Stone 14; Goebel 17, v. Goodey 18; Quarterman 27, v. Glover 30.

Semi-final.—J. R. Cade and W. M. Gordon (Wanganui) 11, v. A. Todd and W. Man (Marton) 17; N. R. Wallace and J. Glover (St. John’s) 4, v. T. L. Sperring and S. J. Goodey (Wanganui) 31.

Final.—A. Todd and W. Marr 18, v. T. L. Sperring and S. J. Goodey 15.
