BRIGADER INGLIS AWARDED BAR TO D.S.O. (Recd. 6.10 p.m.) Rugby, Feb. 18. "An echo of the Alamein fighting last summer was heard in the announcement of the award of a bar to the D.S.O. to Brigadier L. M. Inglis, of the New Zealand military forces, “for most brilliant service and brilliant leadership while in temporary command of the Second New Zealand Division.”

The citation says: “He took over command at the close of the battle at Minquarquaim on June 27, 1942, and was responsible for extricating the vision from a covering position that night. “He directed a successful withdrawal on to the Alamein line, and immediately carried out the reorganisation of the division for the fighting which followed, and at once stabilised the position. "During the whole period he dis played great personal direction and courage, being a constant inspiration to everybody under his command."— 8.0.W.
