BUSH TIRE FIGHTING

WORK OF ARMY PRAISED Whangarei. Feb. 19. Appreciation of what the Army had done in co-operating with the Lands Department in fighing the Northland bush and grass fires, was expressed by the Minister of Agriculture, Hon. J. G. Barclay, in Whangarei. The soldiers had given wonderful service in protecting forests and reserves, as well as private holdings, Mr. Barclay said.

A further outbreak of the Ruakaka fire necessitated the calling out of troops again on Monday. Water was carried a considerable distance to ensure the final extinction of the fire.
