BUTTER AND CHEESE OUTfUI (P.A.) Whangarei, Feb. 16< The Minister ot Agriculture, the Hon. J. G. Barclay, speaking at Hikurangi last night, released information concerning the shipping and production position as affecting dairy produce. Butter gradings from August Ito January 31 were .approximately 82,000 tons, compared with 76,000 tons in a similar period last season. Cheese grading totalled 62,000 tons, compared with 93,000 tons. Taking the two products together, the butterfat decreasd was approximately 6.4 per cent. Butter stocks on January 31 were! 21,000 tons compared with 40,000 tons] Cheese stocks were 30,000 tons cohm pared with 50,000 tons. The shipping position in regard tq butter and cheese was excellent, said the Minister, and clearances were betj ter than last season, which was almost! a record. Whilst the forward shipj ping position was uncertain, it seemed likely that with first priority given to] □utter and cheese, even with ed shipping, that butter and cheese] clearances will continue satisfactorily] and that the shipping disability would fall entirely on meat. The meat irt freezing works on January 31 waM 72,748 as compared with 10,056 tons.
