FOR RETURNED SOLDIERS

PAY FOR SICK PRIVILEGE LEAVE (P.A.) Dunedin, Feb. 16. The delay >n handing over to the returned soldiers 28 days’ pay for sick privilege leave was mentioned by Mr. Jefcoate at a R.S.A. meeting. He averred that army pay irrespective of the pension was payable to returned men whose leave had been deferred until the presentation to the War Pensions Board of a certificate that hospital treatment had ended. He urged that the Government should pay immediately upon discharge from hospital. A soldier should not have to apply. Mr. Jefcoate also alleged that when the final medical board had fixed the degree of a soldier's disability and pension it was generally found that the War Pensions Board reduced substantially the amount recommended by the Medical Board. It was decided to ask the Dominion executive to investigate.
