CONTINUOUS RAIN
WANGANUI DISTRICT GETS SOAKING RISE IN RIVER EXPECTED. With 15 hours’ continuous rain yesterday Wanganui and district received the best soaking it has had this year, the recording taken at the New Zealand Friends' School up to 6 o'clock last night being 1.65 inches. The rain which set in at about 3 o'clock yesterday morning did not cease until 6 o'clock last night. The total rainfall so far this month is 3.83 in., a figure exceeded only twice in full monthly periods during the whole of last year. These months were July and September, when 5.21 in. and 4.15 in. fell respectively. The total so far this month is also higher than the combined total for December and January. Marton and Waverley experienced similar weather to that of Wanganui, steady rain falling throughout most of the day. Steady rain also fell at Pipiriki yesterday and though the Wanganui River was normal in the afternoon, residents are expecting a substantial rise if the rain continued in the back country. In Raetihi and Taihape only light showers were experienced.
