MUSHROOMS PLENTIFUL
BOOM IN RANGITIKEI NEARLY 3000 CASES RAILED TJ CENTRES Mushrooms are plentiful in the Rangitikei district this season. During the past six days 2623 cases of this delicacy have been despatched from the Marton Railway Station to the markets in the main centres, chieily to Auckland. This total is exclusive of the several hundred cases that have been railed at Bonnv Glen. The daily totals sent from Marton during the past week are: Wednesday, 200 cases; Thursday, 300; Friday, 430; Saturday, 590; Sunday, 570, and Monday, 353. Although a number of property owners have warned mushroom gatherers to keep off their properties on account of gates being left open and fences damaged, there si ill seems to be plenty of this delicacy to be gathered. Every night cartons, fruit boxes and tins are piled on the Marton station awaiting despatch. A noticable feature is that a number of property owners are gathering the mushrooms on their own land and sending them to the Auckland markets. where good prices are obtainable. Mushrooms in that centre are retailing at. from 2s to 2s 4d a lb. In Wanganui they are being retailed at Is 6-i a lb.
