WANGANUI CENTRE’S TOURNEY THREE TEAMS LEFT IN POSTSECTION PLAY Post-sect ion play in the Wanganui Bowling Centre’s Christmas tournament was commenced yesterday on the St. John's green. After the completion of three rounds only three teams were left in—Raine (Wanganui East) with two Jives, Gaunt (Wanganui East> one life, and Kirkwood (St. John’s) one life—Benefield and W. Pepper being eliminated. A large attendance of spectators followed the games and at times were treated to some excellent exhibitions. This morning Raine will meet Kirkwood. Gaunt has the bye. Post-section Play On the sixth end between Gaunt and Benefield the score stood at 8-2 to the former, but in the next, when Gaunt lay shot, his No. 3 was unfortunate in shifting kitty, giving Benefield six up. This brought them on level terms. 8-all. A three to Gaunt on the 16th. made the score 19-12 to him. but on the 17ih., 18th. and 19th. Benefield notched five points, 19-17 against him. On the 20th. Benefield lay three on the head, but Gaunt, with his last, burnt the head. In the replay. Gaunt secured a single. On the 21st. Gaunt lay three. Both Glover and Benefield tried to kill the head without success, leaving Gaunt a winner by six points. In the Gaunt-Kirkwood game the latter had no trouble in obtaining a win. On the Sth. end the score was 11-1 in Kirkwood's favour, while a full hand on the 17th. made the board read 20-9 to him. Thp other game in the first round was between W. Pepper and Benefield, the latter securing an easy victory. The 11th. end saw (he score 15-7 to him and with a four to Benefield on the 17th. the score stood at 21-10 to him. A single to both teams brought the game to a conclusion in favour of Benefield. In the Sth. end of the BenelieldRaine game. Benefield put in a fast one which drove kitty against a bowl and rebounded some distance up the green, giving Raine three points. The 9th. end saw them on even terms 7-all. A four on the 13th. and / single on the 14th. to Benefield made the score 14-8 to him, and a brace to Raine on the 18th. -brought them level again. 15-all. Singles to Benefield on the 19th. and 20th. and a two to Raine on the 21st. made the score 17-all. In the extra end played, Raine secured one point and the game. In the Gaunt-Pepper game the latter got well ahead in the first part and on the 12th. the score was 17-8 to him. The 13th. brought luck to Gaunt when he secured a useful four. Singles to Pepper on the 14th. and 16th. made rhe score 19-14 to him. From then on to the end of the game Pepper did not score again. In the meantime Gaunt put on nine points. This defeat eliminated Pepper from the contest. A three to Raine on the 11th. end, When he played Kirkwood, made the Bcore 9-8 to llim. Another three to Raine on the 16th. increased his score to 20-10. A three to Kirkwood on the JOth. finished the game, the score
