OPERATIONS IN BURMA
JAP AERODROMES BOMBED (Recd. 11.30 p.m.) Rugby, Dec. 28 An Indian joint communique states that in the past two days the R.A.F. macle three separate attacks on important Japanese aerodromes at Magwe. On Sunday, Blenheim. 4 bombed the runways and hit the buildings, one of which blew up. The other two raids on Magwe took place yesterday, when Blenheims dropped bombs among enemy aircraft parked in dispersal pens. The other operation was a low-level attack by Hurricane lighters, which successfully shot up buildings and motor transport on an aerodrome. Hurricanes also attacked and severely damaged a medium-sized Japanese river steamer on the Irrawaddy. From these and other operations one of our fighters is missing. Patrolling continues on the front of the eastern Army. In the Arakan district one of our patrols encountered <*nemy troops in the vicinity of Rati. Daun on Sunday night. Alter an exchange of lire the enemy broke off the engagement. (Recd. 10 p.m.) Chungking, Dec. 28. The United States Air Force bombed Japanese concentrations at Tengyaeh. All bombs hit the target area, damaging enemy installations and starting large fires. One anti-aircraft battery was silenced. All the planes returned safely. For the third time in a week B2s’s attacked Lashio, inflicting heavy damage in the warehouse and barracks area. Two large fires and several smaller ones were started. General Stillwell announced thai in an aerial battle in Yunnan on Christmas Day the United States Air Force shot down three enemy bombers and five fighters. The Americans lost two planes. The Chinese air defence headquarlnrs at Running announced that in Sunday’s raids in Yunnan the Japanese lost eight, of 21 bombers.
