LYTTELTON FIRE

SACKS SULL BURNING Christchurch, Dec. 28. The Government has been requested to remove the still smouldering and burning .sacks left in Rhind’s store ar Lyttelton after the tire on Christmas Eve. There were 500,000 of these sacks, and they are regarded as a menace to adjacent buildings. The Mayor of Lyttelton, Mr. F, E. Sutton, who is also Chief Warden, and the head of the fire committee, Mr. T. L. Young, have asked the Minister of Supply, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan. to have the bales of sacks taken away, and have suggested that they be transported to the other side of the hills to burn out on waste ground.
