RAETIHI CATTLE FAIR, (0.C.) Raetihi, Oct. 10. Freeman R. Jackson and Co., Ltd., report on their Raetihi spring cattle fair held on Thursday, October 8, as follows: We yarded 1500 head of cattle which met with keen and sustained competition throughout. Only one pen of yearling heifers remained unsold at the close of the day. Prices were firm and in some cases showed a rise on the best sales reported recently. Top price in the bullock section was secured by Messrs. Glenn Bros. £l2 13s being obtained for a pen of forward P.A. bullocks £ll 9s was the best in the 3rd. year bullocks, sold on account # of Mr. A. F. Malpas. Forward Hereford cows on account of Mr. W. Fulton brought £7 14s, 2-year P.A. steers on account of Mr. T. H. Brown, realised the top price in this age at £8 12s. In the yearling section the annual draft of P.A. steers on account of Morikau Farm made £7 13s for the top cattle. The yearling P.A. heifers were also led at £5 4s by Morikau Farm for cattle that were obviously not a top draft. The cattle yarded were, in nearly all cases, in first class order. The condition of the entries seemed to reflect the mild winter and good feed position. A large attendance of local and visiting buyers followed the sale throughout, good competition coming from the Taihape, Waverley and Wanganui districts. Without exception the 2year and yearling steers were bought by local farmers.
