OIL BORING AT MARTON
SATISFACTORY PROGRESS (0.C.) Marton, Sept. 28. Very satisfactory progress is being made by the Superior Oil Co., of the United States at the site of their oilooring plant, about two miles from Marton. During the week-end a visit was paid to the site, and although the ground in the vicinity was in a very muddy condition the work was going on at full speed. The actual drilling was not in progress at the time, but most of the machinery was in operation. The noise of the big Diesel motors was very impressive and gave some indication ot the power necessary to operate these boring plants. The bore is now down a’bout 1000 feet. The machinery in use is some of the largest and most up-to-date in the world, and to see the ease with which huge weights are lifted and moved about is amazing. A large 18-inch casing was observed being cut off and ground level with an acetone torch, and the 20ft. piece cut off was picked up by the winch as if it whs a piece of straw.
