SECOND LIBERTY LOAN

BANK OFFICERS TOUR N.Z. TO OBTAIN SUPPORT For the purpose of stimulating interest in the forthcoming second Liberty Loan, Mr. J. W. Burland, deputychief cashier of the Reserve Bank, is visiting Wanganui. Mr. Burland said that everybody would realise that the country could not carry on total war without total effort, and subscribing to war loans was one of the ways in which everybody could and must assist. The first Liberty Loan was an outstanding success, proving conclusively that the people of New Zealand realised the absolute necessity for maximum effort. The Prime Minister has announced that a further 110,000,000 will be required this year and everything must be done to make this loan as successful as the. last. In the meantime advance subscriptions are being accepted and interest on such contributions will be paid as from date of lodgment. Rotary Club Addressed An appeal for the whole community to support tie forthcoming second Liberty Loan was made by Mr. Burland at the Wanganui Rotary Club luncheon yesterday. There are five officers of the Reserve Bank travelling New Zealand on the same mission, two in the South Island and three in the North Island. They hope to establish new contacts and urge upon the people the advantages to be gained from investing in inscribed Stock.

The present struggle was a' grim one and it needed tne help and cooperation of all sections of the community to achieve victory, said Mr. Burland. New Zealand and the Empire had a magnificent heritage to safeguard and no effort should be spared to see that the ideals for which tne men in tne armed forces were fighting for are maintained and consolidated on the home front. With their backs to the wall the people oi Britain had won the great air battles of September, 1940, by sacrifice and determination, and the people of New Zealand could not do better than follow that lead now.
