Mr. H. R. 11. Chalmers, general manager of the Bank of New Zealand, has returned from Australia.

Pilot-Officer L. M. Ralph, of Takapuna, has been promoted Flight-Lieu-tenant. He left the Dominion in 1941 as a sergeant-pilot, and was subsequently posted to the New Zealand Fighter Squadron. Mr. E. Manley was elected president of the Wanganui Cricket Association at the annual meeting last night. The retiring president, Mr. F. W. Gilligan, was elected to the new office of immediate past president and was accorded a vote of thanks for his services.

With the concurrence of the Bishop of Auckland, the vicar of Pukekohe, the Rev. A. E. Prebble, M.A., has been unanimously chosen by the parochial nominators of the parish of Whangarei to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Archdeacon Steele. He will take up his new duties probably in November.

Advice has been received by Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Pollard, of 394 Mount Eden Road, that their son, Norman E. Pollard, R.N.Z.N.V.R., has gained a commission. He left New Zealand with a forestry unit and later was transferred to the Navy. He is well known in Auckland yachting circles and was owner of the Mamaru.

Reference to the deaths on active service of Sergeant Leo Connor, 2nd. N.Z.E.F., and Pilot-Officer W. Joyce, R.N.Z.A.F., was made at the annual meeting of the k Wanganui Cricket Association last night. As a mark of respect the meeting stood in silence for a brief neriod. Mention was also made of W. L. Kauter, who is reported missing on air operations. A son of Mr. H. A. Prebble, of Three Mile Bush, Whangarei, N. S. Prebble, has been commissioned as a sub-lieutenant in the Royal Navy Educated at the Feilding Agricultural High School, he left New Zealand in 1941 and after a period at H.M.S. Ganges saw service on the aircraftcarrier Victorious before transfer to King Alfred College. Mr. K. H. Cave was elected patron of the Wanganui Cricket Association at the annual meeting last night. He first represented Wanganui in 1895-96 and for the last time in 1925-26. He played for the New Zealand Nomads both before and after the last world war. After retiring from active play, Mr. Cave became an umpire and officiated with distinction in both interprovincial and test matches. He is held in high regard by overseas teams as well as New Zealand sides. Mr. W. J. Treadwell, a former president and patron of the Wanganui Cricket Association, whose death occurred a few months ago, was referred to at the annual meeting cf the association last night by the retiring president. Wing-Commander L. C. Seavill, of Hamilton, has been appointed commanding officer of the sixth New Zealand Squadron in England. It is a training squadron in the Bomber Command. Wing-Commander Seavill recently held a position in Canada. He was educated at Southwell School, Hamilton, and Wanganui Collegiate School, whieh he attended in 1924-25-26-27. Joining the Air Force at the age of 21 years, he became an instructor in the R.A.F. He is a son of the late Mr. Walter Seavill, of Hamilton. The death occurred in Wellington Hospital on Sunday night, after a long illness, of Pilot-Olhcer Arthur C. Long, age! 29. Pilot-Officer Long received serious injuries to his head and back when a dual control tr lining plain in which he and another officer had been on a training flight, crushed into Auckland harbour on January 6, IS4I. Both officers were rescued. After three months in Auckland Hospital, Pilot-Officer Long was flown to Wellington, and had been in hospital there ever since. He was the son of the Rev. F. C. Long, genetnl secretary to the New Zealand Anglican Board of Missions m Wellington, and 'Mrs. Long.
