GENERAL DRIVES TANK

AMERICAN DEPOT IN EGYPT London, Sept. 25. Genera] Alexander, Commander-In-Chief of the Allied Forces in the Middle East, is the first member of the British forces to take a test drive in a General Grant tank repaired in a desert workshop. Accompanied by General Maxwell, commander of the United States Forces in the Middle East, he was inspecting a new American depot and training centre which is nearing completion, and saw British troops being trained in the use of the newest tvp of American automatic weapons. Trying out a new make of rifle, General Alexander scored five bull’s-eyes on the target with five shots. Later he drove the first tank which had been repaired in this workshop. He drove out to the desert at high speed and when he got back he said the Allies had some fine weapons there. It was important that they should know how to use them.
