PATROL VESSEL

TO BE LAUNCHED TO-DAY Wellington, Sept. 28. A Fairmile patrol vessel will oe launched in Auckland to-morrow. The Government will be represented by Mr. Coates, a member of the War Administration, who has taken keen interest in the production of this type of naval unit in New Zealand. They are 100 feet long, powerfully engined, with two petrol motors, each of 600 horse-power. Their man duty is the protection of merchant ships. No steel is being used in this type of vessel, the frames being bakelised plywood made in England and the hulls are constructed of New Zealand timber.
