RAETIHI NEWS

COMPLIMENTARY’ DANCE (0.C.) Raetihi, Sept. 26. The girls of Raetihi entertained soldiers of the Ist Tank Battalion. Area 7, at a dance in the Druids’ Hall on Thursday night. There was a good attendance. This dance was run entirely by the girls, who had themselves been entertained at weekly dances at the camp throughout the winter months. The committee spared no pains to make the evening a success and their efforts were well rewarded by the evident enjoymnt and appreciation of all present. The hall was tastefully decorated with ferns and greenery, the supper-room also being very attractive with masses of spring flowers. A special feature of the decorations in the hall was the shape of a tank, complete with gun, which was outlined with coloured lights against a dark background at the end of the hall. This was the work of Mr. G. F. Hunt and was much admired. The duties of M.C. were ably carried out by Lance-Corporal Lord, who kept the evening going with a swing. Winners of the lucky spot waltz were Miss N. Beaton and Corporal Webb, the Monte Carlo waltz Miss K. Cummings and Trooper Howe, and the statue fox-trot Miss E. Gardner and Mr. M. Gardner.

At the close of the evening, the Mayoress. Mrs. W. J. Feltham, spoke on behalf of the girls, thanking the soldiers for their attendance and wishing them good luck in the future. Major Worsnop replied on behalf of the men and thanked the girls for the very pleasant evening. The dance was brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthem.
