DISPERSAL TRIAL OFF
MORE RAIN IN WANGANUI Because of further heavy rain on Thursday night and again yesterday, the E.P.S. dispersal trial which was to have been held in the business area "some time during daylight hours” yesterday was postponed. This decision was reached after midday, when the weather showed no signs of improving. Asked when the trial was likely to be held, the E.P.S. organiser, Mr. I. Manley, said a fresh order would have to be issued by the Mayor, Hon. W. J. Rogers, M.L.C., chairman of the Wanganui Central Committee. Arrangements would be made for the trial to take place some time next week. Mr. Manley added that the dispersal test yesterday was called off because the weather was too wet. The covered shelters and slit trenches were comparatively dry, but contained a certain amount of slush. The E.P.S. authorities were anxious for these trials to be held, but did not wish to cause people needless discomfort. In future dispersal trials would not last longer than 15 minutes, probably less. Past experience has showed that the business area can be cleared in very quick time.
