MELBOURNE MURDERS
FIFTEEN DETECTIVES INVESTIGATING (Recd. 6.5 p.m.) Melbourne, May 21. Fifteen detectives are engaged solely on the investigation into uie three recent Melbourne sex crime murders. They are practically without a clue to help them in the Hosking murder and have made little progress in the first two crimes. The knowledge that the murderer is at large in the darkened city is terrifying Melbourne women. There has been a marked absence of women and girts about the streets at night. Girls are leaving night-shift jobs when they have to walk home alone. Some employees are applying for special police to be stationed on all night trams to escort women travelers. Additional military provost pairols are being sent out to assist police patrols. A city cafe with a big night trade is adding a dormitory so that night waitresses can sleep on ihe premises.
