TAIHAPE-MARTON ROAD

REPAIR WORK NEEDED A letter drawing attention lo the state of the Marton-Taihape road was received at. last night’s meeting of the Automobile Association (Wanganui) from Mr. T. C. Kincaid. Taihape. He said a year ago the road was in good order but it had deteriorated in recent months, and asked that th' matter be brought to the notice of the Main Highways Board. Mr. G. W. Sampson said he had received a report on the condition of the road. He recalled that the lir.-t part of the road had been put. down in Jun°. 1938. and other contracts for tar-sealing were let. during the same year. Some of the tar-sealing was not finished until 1939. Only one ?oat of far had been put on the old road and it had given good service. Because of the war men and materials were scarce, but it would bp attenaod to as much as possible. Mr. D. G. O’Toole said the Public Works Department deserved to he congratulated on the expeditious way the Wanganui-Raetihi highway had been put in order after recent heavy rains and slips. Ho was pleased lo inform the meeting that the good wo; k was being continued.
