NINETY YEARS OLD
NONAGENARIAN HONOURED MRS. M. MORRISON’S BIRTHDAY A pleasing little function took 1 place yesterday afternoon at the •' Church of Christ, when members cf ' th"' Sisters’ Fellowship and numerous friends met to offer congratulations 0 to an esteemed member of the church. , Mrs. M. Morrison, on the occasion ol , her 901 h birthday. Many floral tributes and telegrams wore received. . including those from the Prime Minister and the the Mayor, the Hon. W. J. Rogers, M.L.C. On behalf of the Wanganui early settlors, the secretary. Mr. Adams. ( expressed the association's thanks <o , Mrs. Morrison for her contributions of vocal items at. the various functions and conveyed greetings and best wishes from Mrs. Morrison’s many Christchurch friends. The chair was occupied by Mrs. Fretwell who. in a charcteristically happy speech, spoke of the affectionate regard in which the guest of the afternoon was held. Her remarks were supplemented by the Rev. F. 1 Fret well, who emphasised Mrs. Morrison’s interest in the work of th" f church. Vocal items were contributed by Mrs. Chelly, Mesdames Munro. Rich- ( dale, and Baberfald. who sang a trio. “The Old Fashioned Days," and a , quartette, Misses Cave. Young. Bing ; and Cave, sang “Granma's Birthday.” • Mrs. Morrison’s swee t . musical voice was hoard in two items, which she sang unaccompanied and with telling effect, while her speech in returning ( thanks for the many kindnesses shown her provoked well-merited applause. The Mayor, who was also present. , conveyed his personal felicitations and those of the Wanganui citizens. A birthday cake, artistically decorated in mauve and lemon, was cut with due ceremony by Mrs. Morrison. ] and it was distributed among guests.
