CHANCE FOR CHINESE
BASES TO BOMB TOKIO PILOTS, BUT NO PLANES (Recd. 11 p.m.) Ottawa. May 19. Major-General Shen, commanding the Chinese air training unit in the United States, attending the air training conference, told the Press: “China has built bases from which planes can easily bomb Tokio and other Japanese cities as soon as we receive the necessary planes.” Major-General Shen said: "There are many trained pilots in China but they are idle because planes are lacking.” Asked if China can keep on fighting now that the Burma Road is closed, he replied:—“We can. We have been fighting for five years.” Shen expressed the opinion that, the Japanese could not stand a long war because their industries and resources were insufficient.
