DEFENCE OF CANAL
AMERICA AND PANAMA SIGN TREATY Washington, May 18. The United States and the Republic of Panama signed a treaty at Panama to-day covering the use of defence areas in the Panama Republic by the United States armed forces which are already in occupation by permission of the Panamanian Government. Aeroplane detector stations, auxiliary airfields and other defence establishments ai-2 now being developed. The State Department paid a tribute to Panama’s co-operation in mutual defence, showing a wholehearted willingness to share the responsibilities of the defence of the Panama Canal.
