MINISTERIAL . The Prime Min.ster, Kt. Hon. P. Fraser, arrived at Wanganui late terday afternoon from Palmeiuto.i North. In the evening he met representatives of the Home Guard from country districts, and subsequently attended a special meeting of the ' Wanganui Harbour Board. Mr Fraser also received a deputation from the Women’s War Service Auxiliary, and tho Sarjeant Gallery Committee. Ho will leave for Taranaki this morning. Mr. J. J. Scott, Deputy-Mayor, has I been appointed deputy-chairman of the Wanganui City E.P.S. Executive Committee. Mr. F. N. Lawrence, of Christchurch. has been elected president of the New Zealand Ironmasters’ Federation. Mr. H. P. Ford has been reappointed to the Auckland Land Board for a term of two years as Government representative. Mr. J. A. McLean, who has been chairman of the North Auckland Power Board since it was formed in 1924, has been re-elected for a further term. Miss E. M. Lewis. New Zealand Army Nursing Service, until recently matron of a New Zealand hospital ship, has been appointed matron of a military camp hospital, Central Military District. Second-Lieutenant. J. B. Cotlerill, M. for Wanganui, accompanied the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, from Palmerston North to Wanganui yesterday. Second-Lieutena/it Cotterill returns to camp to-day. Mr. Colin Taylor, honorary A.R.C.M., is to be the examiner in New Zealand this year for the Associated Board of th’e Royal Schools of Music. Mr. Taylor is at present in South Africa. Mr. W. Hensen, who has been a member of the Waitohi School Committee for 26 years, and Mr. J. T. Mora, who has been a member of tho Pohangana School Committee for 19 years, are to be sent letters by tho Wanganui Education Board expressing appreciation of their services. The death has occurred at Picton of Mr. Walter Taylor Esson, formerly chief inspector for New Zealand of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited. Born al Picton 61 years ago, he was a son of tho late Mr.. W. M. B. Esson. and a brother of the late Colonel J. J. Esson, Secretary to the Treasury. Lieut.-General E. Puttick, D.S.O. and bar. General Officer Commanding New Zealand Forces; Major-General N. McD. Weir, N.Z.S.C., officer commanding, Central Military Division, and Colonel H. M. Foster. N.Z.S.C., commandant, Contra! Military Division, are visiting Wanganui. They leave for Taranaki to-day. The *Mayor of Wanganui, Hon. W. J. Rogers, M.L.C., at the monthly meeting of tho City Council yesterday, thanked Mr. J. J. Scott, the Deputy-Mayor, for presiding at council meetings during the Mayor’s recent illness. Mr. Rogers also thanked councillors for their message of sympathy while indisposed. Since Ihe death of the Rev. Arthur C. Nelson more than a year ago, the Beresford Street Congregational Church, Wellington, has been without a settled mini ter. For the last six months, the pi..oi'< has been supplied by the Rev. Clifford L. Welch, who was a missionary under the London Missionary Society at Nauru Island for five years before coming t.i New Zealand. The church decided to extend a call to Mr. Welch to become the minister and the invitation has been accepted. Mr. Percy Smallfield, of. Taihape, was last week awarded one of the two prizes of £lO given by the Roya; Academy of Music (London) for the candidates gaining the highest marks in tho North and South Islands respectively in the licentiate examinations. Mr. Smallfield lived for some years al. Durie Hill and commenced his musical studies while residing at the Vicarage. He gained the L.R.S.M. last December, taking second place for New Zealand. A son of the Rev. W. M. Smallfield. Vicar of Taihape, and Mrs. Smallfield. he is now serving with the armed forces.
