In spite of the necessity for wartime sacrifices, A»nericans would have an adequate supply of food and other essentials for the duration of the war, 1 provided these supplies were equitably distributed, said the Price Administrator, Mr. Leon J. Henderson, ■ to-day. . “America has won for the common man the highest standard of living in history, which is a source of strength . in the present struggle,” he said. “We can afford a war economy which Germany and Japan cannot.’ Mr. Henderson added: “One of the major American freedoms has been the freedom to bargain collectively for higher wages, but to-day collective bargaining comes into head-on collision with the stabilisation of income. 1 earnestly ask for tolerance and forbearance while these two great necessities are satisfactorily adjusted.” The chairman of the War Labour , Board, Mr. Davis, appealed to laboui 2 to forego wage demands that were in--1 consistent with the policy of stabilised I wages enunciated by President Rooser veil "We are not fighting the war for ! privileges and we cannot win th-* wai r without self-restraint,” said Mr. Davis. _ "Both labour and management will s have to show very great self-restraint on the wage front.” —
