LETTERS DROPPED BY .hl JAPANESE PLANES lO] _ S (Recd. 6.30 p.m.) Canberra, May 17. 11 , Four hundred letters from AustraI lian prisoners of war in JapaneseJ"! occupied territory were dropped by ?e l Japanese aeroplanes over Port Moresby on April 28, said the Minister of the i Army. Mr. F. M. Forde. After examination the letters were brought to the mainland and forwarded to the addressees. This is the first news relatives have received from prisoners in that region. The letters are expected to assist the 5- army considerably in completing 5’7 casualty lists, particularly in the Rabaul fighting.
