THREE MEN INJURED

ACCIDENT AT WAN’GAEHU CAR SWERVES IMO DITCH When a motor-car. driven by W. J Green, of 16 Argyle Street, Wanganui swerved to avoid colliding with a stall ed car outside the Wangaehu Hall, about 7.45 on Saturday evening, it became uncontrollable, 'with the resuli that, three mon wore injured, two o whom were admitted to the Vvanganu Public Hospital. The injured were:— Lawrence Hodge, 17 years, farmer Wangaehu, concussion and leg injuries. Norihcote Woodham, of Ohakea, concussion and broken collarbone. Robert Laiurenson, of Wangaehu shock and abrasions, able to proceed home. When a parade of Home Guards was being held outside the Wangaehu Hal on Saturday a motor-car stalled in the middle of the road. Several of the guards attempted to start Lhe car by pushing it, the lights of the vehicle being on at the time. A car, driver by Green, with Woodham as a passenger. came from the direction ol Turakina and swerved to avoid colliding with the stalled vehicle. It left the side of lhe road and crashed into s lorry, tearing lhe mudguards away Continuing on it struck three motorcars which were parked at the back ol the lorry. The car then swerved on 1c Lhe road again, eventually coming 1c a stop in a ditch at the other side of the road. It was during the car’s swerve back on to lhe road that Hodge and Laurenson were injured, the former being dragged into the ditch. The car had to be lifted to extricate him. Dr. G. H. Robertson, Wanganui, attended lhe injured, who were conveyed lo the Wanganui Hospital by the St. John Free Ambulance. Constables E. E. Strawbridge and C. Dudley, of the Wanganui Central Police Station, proceeded to the scene of the accident to make an examination into the circumstances.
