SAVED FROM DROWNING IN HARBOUR
AUCKLAND C ARPENTER WITH FRACTURED PELVIS (I’.A.) Auckland, May 17. j Rescued from the harbour with a broken pelvis after he had fallen from a jettv while attempting to catch a vehicular ferry, Allan Ririe Donaldson, aged 60, carpenter, married, of Avon- , dale, had a narrow escape from . drowning to-night. Donaldson was running to catch the 7 o’clock ferry. Missing his direction in the dark he ran on to the jetty near the engine-sheds under the impression that he was taking a short-cut across ; a reclamation. Unable to move be- ’ cause of the pain of his injury, Donaldson was caught in shallow water ’ about 10ft. from a steeply-sloped roek [ wall with the tide rising. Fortunately a chance passer-by heard his cries for 1 help, borrowed a bicycle and rode to the Queen's Wharf police station. ' Constable Tucker went to the scene with the wharf ambulance and lifted Donaldson from the waler. He was taken to Auckland Hospital. His condition is serious.
