-4». POWER BOARD CHAIRMAN TRIBUTES TO MR. F. TURNELL. “The board would be wise to stick to one who has led it so well in past years," said Mr. W. Morrison, wnen moving at the annual meeting of the Wanganui-Rangitikei Power Board yesterday that Mr. F. Purneh (Marton) be re-elected chairman. The motion w'as carried unanimously, Mr. Purnell being returned unopposed. Mr. Purnell, who is also Mayor of Mart oil, has been chairman oi the board lor the past 18 years. He was one of the foundation members when the board was formed in 1922, and was elected to the chair in 1924. "t am sure you will all agree thai under the leadership of Mr. Purnell the board pas progressed and prospered,” s:*.i Mr. Morrison. "He is a first-class chairman—able, tactful, anc. tolerant." Returning thanks, Mr. Pyrnell said his duties had been made easy because of the assistance of board members, officers, and the staff. "My duly, as far as possible, will be to meet you in all reasonable requests,” Mr. Purnell said Io board members. “I thank you for the courtesy you have always shown me as chairman.” When moving the adoption of the annual report, Mr. Purnell said they did not. know when power fines might be damaged, and for this reason the board's nuances must be kept as strong as possible. The board’s depredation and reserve funds had been built up. and the finances would stand anything except a major disaster. There was no suggestion that the cost of electricity to the consumers would increase. On the motion of the chairman the hoard Decided to invest $5OOO in the Liberty Loan. Congratulating the chairman and the board's officers on the success oi the year’s operations. Mr. Morrison said the report and balance-sheet were very satisfactory to all concerned. Consumers would also be pleased to know that the cost of electricity had not been increased.
