TAIHAPE’S QUOTA
4.-,0(10 IN NATIONAL APPEAL The question of raising £5OOO, Taihape’s quota in the national appeal, was discussed at a meeting of the Patriotic Committee at which the Mayor, Mr. L. B. H. de Lautour, presided. Those present were Mesdames Mac Diarmid, Kearins and Barton, Miss Mayne and Messrs. Lendrum, Terry, Bartosh, O’Connor, J. Webb, R. Marks, J. Tierney, and the secretary (Mr. V. Parsons). Apologies were received from Mesdames J. Williams and Haydon and Mr. V. Smith. A sub-committee reported that it had fully discussed ways and means and decided on a direct appeal, which had proved successful in other centres. A copy of a proposed letter which is to be sent to all wageearners was’submitted to the committee. After the letters were sent out canvassers will call on each wage-earner and give a receipt for all sums given. The canvasser will cary an authority from Mr. de Lautour. The list of donors will be acknowledged. The eastern and western areas are each to attempt to raise £lBOO and the town £l4OO. The necessary sum for soldiers’ parcels is included in this appeal.
