LABOUR IN U.S.A.

SHOULD BE GIVEN FAIR CHANCE (Recd. 7.55.) Washnglon, March 19. High Government officials and Labour leaders have started a determined drive with a view to prevent Congressional legislation against the closed shop, suspension of the 40hour week, etc. Mr. Murray called an extraordinary session of the Congress of Industrial Organisations’ Board with a view to fight off these proposals. In addition, the chairman of the War Production Board. Mr. Donald Nelson, and Miss Frances Perkins and others urgently warned the Senate Committee not to alienate Labour. Mr. Nelson testified that the new labour legislation was not necessary but would be detrimental. He expressed the opinion that force would not increase production. On the contrary, wage premiums for a record output would stimulate the workers. He added that the management of labour should be given a fair chance to carry Out their promises.
