EVIDENCE AT RIOM

POOR SHOWING OF ITALIAN ARMIES. London. March 18. At the so-called war guilt trial at Riom, General Mittelhauser, who commanded the French army in the Alps, said that the Italian armies were a complete failure, even when France was collapsing. The Italians planted 20 divisions against the six French divisions, but at no point managed to penetrate the French positions, and the fighting only ended with the Armistice. The French forces were taken in the rear by the Germans, but eVen then the Italians failed to keep their rendezvous with the Germans, as arranged. The morale of the French troops was excellent, but there was a 'shortage of officers.
