Women’s New Work. Women are entering new professions in England. One of the latest jobs for women is commercial travelling. Manufacturers in Britain are employing young women as commercial travellers to replace the men who have been called up. One large business house has a travelling staff of about 40. The women are proving equal to the /Men in their selling powers and they like the work. Another new profession for women is the repairing of telephones and work on extension installations. Nearly 1000 women have been engaged by the Post Office on this work. Women are also to be employed as packers, porters and storekeepers for mail bags, uniforms, engineering materials, and spare motor parts in the Post Office. The P.O. Engineering Union is claiming for them pay equal to that of their male colleagues. Commissions in the Women's Auxiliary Air Force are being offered to women as weather forecasters in the meteorological branch. The qualifications required are high. They include a science degree in mathematics or physics.
