PROTEST TO JAPAN
CHILE TO INVESTIGATE SINKING OF SHIPS Santiago, March 17. The Chilean Cabinet has ordered an immediate investigation of the torpedoing of the Tolten, which is the first Chilean ship to be sunk by an Axis U-boat. The Foreign Minister, Mr. Rossetti, to-night summoned the German Japanese, and Italian Envoys to his office. Deputy Bernardo Ibanetz, president of the Chilean Workers' Association, announced that he had req jested the Government immediately to sever relations with the Axis, following the sinking of the Tolten. Brazilians in Sao Paulo have renewed their anti-Axis demonstrations. Large crowds tore down German, Italian, and Japanese street signs and substituted the names of recently sunk Brazilian ships.
