SOCIAL AND PERSONAL Mrs. T. Tod, of Hunterville, visited Wanganui during the week. Mrs D. A. Coles. Wanganui, was a recent visitor to Hamilton. Mrs. G. Cathey. Eltham, is spending a holiday in Wanganui. Mrs. L. Wansbrough, of the W.A.A.F., Rotorua, is on leave in Wanganui and is staying with Mrs. A. E. Ogier, Durie Hill. Miss Esme Turnbull, of Wellington, was. the guest of Mrs. C. J. Johnston, Cumbrae Place, for the week-end. HITHER AND THITHER Navy League Work. Yesterday was another packing day for the work of the Women’s auxiliary of the Wanganui branch of the Navy League. About 40 garments were packed to be forwarded. The articles, which included seaboot stockings, pullovers, mittens, gloves and balaclavas were knitted from home-spun wool, spun by members, made a tine display. These garments, so much needed by men of the Merchant Navy and trawlers, will be greatly appreciated by the recipients. WANGANUI AIRWOMAN MISS TREVOR HUNTER London. Feb. 12. Both her flying and medical tests qualifying her to enter the Air Transport Auxiliary have been passed by Miss 'Trevor Hunter, of Wanganui, since her arrival in England, states a correspondent. Miss Hunter is now stayinr in London, waiting for advice to begin her first training course. Il will last about a month, after which she will be entitled to wear the A.T.A. dark blue uniform with gold wings over the left breast. She will also be allowed to wear “New Zealand” shoulder badges. Newcomers to the A.T.A. fly Harvards and Miles Magisters. Later they learn to fly Fulmars, Tomahawks, Mohawks, Spitfires and Hurricanes. They ferry them from aircraft factories to maintenance units and R.A.F. stations. Women pilots in the A.T.A. are now beginning to ferry twinengine bombers, including Wellingtons, Blenheims and Hampdens. ENGAGEMENT Hickford—Mischewski. The engagement is announced of Molly, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Mischewski. of Inglewood, to Edgar William (Tim), fourth son of Mrs. L. and the late Mr. Frank Hickford, of Waverley.
